  that is how much the goverment is sitting on in unclaimed money.to be precise eric pickles is any way along with george and david.1 billion quid well 900 million to be correct needs to be claimed from eu pay masters,theeuropean regionl development fund to be presice which needs to be claimed by next year.this has been uncorved by theshadow foreiign minister emma reynolds.
  
  so what with barry saying that the goverment money,well it has.could this be down to incompetence from goverment ministers.

  If there is money there that could be used for our benefit then why are we not claiming it? we certainly pay enough in, a few million of it could make a lot of difference to Dover.

  To receive money from this ERDF fund, you need to come up with an appropriate project that fits their criteria.
  
  Convergence.
  
  Regional Competitiveness.
  
  European Territorial Co-operation.
  
  These programmes are designed to meet current needs by targeting employment, small and medium-sized enterprises, innovation, high-tech business investment, among other key priorities identified by local partners. IE local district & county councils.
  
  Anyone with a suitable project can be an applicant, with local partners being councils & businesses.
  I am hoping to make use of this fund very soon and if successful, will certainly benefit Dover/Deal.

  I suspect there are vast sums of money floating around all over Brian, look at the money they can find for Jubilee celebrations and Olympic games when push comes to shove. The EU money is hard to fathom and probably can only be claimed by significant enterprise and maybe there arent enough of those, but the EU appears even more cash strapped than we are...perhaps they could give it to the Euro Banks to stop tax payers money forever bailing them out.
  
  Today however I see hope on the horizon. A new European Banking Union is being talked about in serious terms. A wide regulated power body that would see them all, all banks, governed from Brussels HQ. This could be good...all regulated so that all pull together and none step out of line and fail.
  Keeps a chaps little savings account safe.

  I think the article is a bit confusing; the government cannot simply give it to firms to boost employment.
  
  However, if they are sat on all this money and not handing it out or turning suitable projects down, then that is disgraceful and beggars the question why are they not supporting suitable projects and why are they sat on this pot of gold?
  
  I know that very good projects have been turned down, projects that should have been funded.
  
  In essence this money is the "Big Society Fund" and if DD is genuine about it, then why is his Government not making sure it gets to where it should be getting to.

  gary,it does begger the question why they are sitting on it,unless by claiming it might upset the eurosceptics.
