Easy Orienteering - Whinless Down

Try something different this summer. An orienteering event designed for beginner orienteers, runners and anyone with a sense of adventure. Dramatic chalk downland near Dover with great views over the North Downs, Dover Castle and the English Channel.

There will be two courses. For beginners there will be a 45 minute time limit course. Find as many checkpoints (controls) as possible, most are easy to find even for a complete beginner. You don't need to find them all. Run as an individual or as a group. 1 point scored per control, and one point lost for every minute late. Members of Saxons Orienteering club will be there to help you.

For more experienced orienteers, there will be a 60 minute time limit course with rules designed to produce a greater physical and mental challenge

Enter on the day. £4 adults, £2 juniors.

Colour map and an electronic timing device and results printout included in the price. Meet at 10.30 for an 11am start at Elms Vale Recreation Ground, Elms Vale, Dover, Kent, CT17 9NN. If this fills up, park in Elms Vale road alongside the playing fields.

DIRECTIONS:

From mid-Kent direction take M20 then A20 towards Dover. Appoximately 3.5 miles beyond Folkestone exit A20 (and left at roundabout) onto B2011 (signed Hougham and Dover). This road takes you into Dover, at mini-roundabout take first exit (Elms Vale Road) and reach the recreation ground on right after 0.5 miles.

From Canterbury or Thanet direction approach Dover on A2 Jubillee way, follow A20 around the front and turn right at second traffic lights. Then left at roundabout, past station to mini-roundabout. Turn right and reach recreation ground on right after a further 0.5 miles.
