Rethink your drink
Alcohol Awareness Week
19-23 October
“I tend to drink a glass or two of wine a day; maybe a bit more if I am out with friends. I don’t binge drink and don't see it as an issue. I know it is probably above the recommended drinking limits but I enjoy a glass of wine when I get home from my job, it helps me unwind from my day and shut off."
This 30 year old woman’s attitude to drinking is typical of many people and she is part of a growing trend.
As part of the first national Alcohol Awareness Week starting on 19 October, the Kent Drug and Alcohol Action Team is supporting the campaign by encouraging everyone to look at how much alcohol they consume each week and to ‘rethink their drink.’
KCC Cabinet Member for Communities Mike Hill said:
"This is an opportunity for everyone to look at the effect drinking alcohol maybe having on their lives. It’s all too easy to slip into a pattern of drinking, without realising that you are having one or two drinks too many. Even this small increase can have serious effects on your long term health.”
The Kent Drug and Alcohol Action Team is a partnership of organisations including Kent County Council, the NHS Primary Care Trusts, Kent Police, Kent Probation and the National Treatment Agency. During next week, staff will be taking the ‘Urban Blue’ activity bus across the county, stopping off to offer passers-by non-alcoholic 'mocktails' as they have a go at 'beer goggles' which simulate drunkenness and try and guess the number of units in a series of drinks. The week will culminate with a car simulator test which shows what happens when people drink and drive after just a small amount of alcohol.
The Urban Blue activity bus will be travelling to:
Monday – Tescos, Bridge Road, Sheerness ME12 1RH
Tuesday – Dartford High Street
Wednesday – Market Square, Dover (till 12noon)
High Street, Ramsgate (from 1pm)
Thursday – Maidstone High Street
Friday – Clock tower, outside Royal Victoria Place, Tunbridge Wells
(The bus will be at each location from 10am each day)

The LD Lines Seacat
at Full Pelt!
We did promise to show these photos a week or two back but it has taken a while. They were taken by
Colette Boland on her humble
mobile phone from the rear deck of the Norman Arrow. They show just how awesome a piece of high tech machiney it actually is. It powers through the water at great speed and is quite a thrilling experience, especially when you linger on that rear deck. These pictures were taken mid channel while at full pelt. We would like to remind everyone that it goes out of service at the end of the month, or more accurately, on to pastures new...so take the opportunity now to have a ride onboard. We are in the last chance saloon. Dover has seen some amazing craft, here is another one destined for the history books.
I have had a new press release in from LD LINES showing their autumn fare rates so will put that up shortly...to follow..yes here we are...........

The Changing Face of...
Dover
Amid the hurly burly and frantic pace of your daily lives, some of you may have missed Dover's gargantuan leap forward in the past week. It was a long time coming but when it came it was very satisfying. To gaze upon this new splendiferous view was indeed a truly rewarding experience. It filled one with a warm glow, an inner satisfaction. Okay, okay, I may be overdoing it here!
What is he on about I hear you ask with a bewildering scratch of the cranium...
Well, Im not going to tell you. No sirreeeee! you are going to have to spot it for yourselves. Ive put up two pictures, so now its over to you dear reader to spot the difference.
The picture at the top with the wishy washy colours was taken yesterday Oct 17.

The picture below, or in other words the one over to your left, was taken on a warm day in May, as summer was about to unfurl before us.
Okay..so whats the difference?
What was this enormous or gargantuan leap forward referred to above?
Leave your comment below if you can spot it. Or even if you cant!
