26 September 2012

Turrloo F Parrett the chairman of Eastwell manor held a champagne reception last night for the business community of Kent. It was very well attended from all corners of the county with respected 'chains' coming from a number of towns. Our chain contingent from Dover was well represented and you can see them in the picture on your immediate left. Both the Chairman of DDC and the Mayor of Dover were in attendance and represented us in fine style.

Top picture from left to right. Colette Boland of Doverforum, Cllr Sue Nicholas Chairman of Dover District Council, Turrloo F Parrett, Chairman of the Eastwell Manor group.. which includes our local Hythe Bay Restaurant here on Dover Seafront, Cllr Mick Smith who is the Mayor's escort, and last but not least..the Mayor of Dover herself Cllr Anne Smith...

A well known face in the second picture will be familiar to many after more than 400 TV appearances in mainstream programmes such as Midsomer Murders and so on, not to mention a brace of movies. Ken Colley..the name may not be entirely familar but the face certainly is, playing everything from baddies to detectives over many many years. Here we see ColetteB and Mick Smith chatting to him and in the background you can see some of the other guests enjoying the sumptuous surroundings of Eastwell Manor. PB.

Turbulent Times on the Weatherfront...

With the UK experiencing some of the worst September storms in more than 30 years, here in Dover and surrounding areas we have had considerable intensity likewise, we have not escaped the torrential downpours and all night long lightning lit up the harbour area and all across the sea divide to France. The sky goes from blue dramatics to grey misery in quick procession. Is this one of those newly named cloud patterns?

Dover Cruise Port and Oceania Cruises welcome 30,000th passenger on board

Dover Cruise Port and Oceania Cruises were proud to welcome the 30,000th embarking passenger on board their ship the Marina last week (12.09.12). Clare Newman, Business Delivery Manager, Dover Harbour Board and Bernard Carter, Managing Director of Oceania Cruises presented Joy and Ian Kravitz from Santa Monica, USA with two bottles of champagne.
Luxury operator Oceania Cruises have been visiting the port since June 2004 and introduced the Marina in 2011.

The Port of Dover has welcomed the cruise operator a total of 49 times providing a first class service to over 69,000 passengers in total (both embarking and disembarking). The Port of Dover is the start point for the Marina’s ‘Continental Connoisseur’ tour which takes in 15 calls including La Rochelle, Oporto, Seville and Casablanca - ending in Barcelona.

Clare Newman congratulated the couple;
“It’s a great start to a holiday, I hope they enjoyed a glass of champagne or two as they sailed out of the iconic port and past the White Cliffs of Dover on-board the elegant Marina. We wish all passengers embarking from Dover a fantastic cruise ship experience.”
