The Front Page. - Copy 197 (Dispatches, the book by Jeane Trend-Hill)

12 September 2011

It is not every day we have one of our very own forumites publishing a book. We have had a number of guys do so over the years and now Jeane Trend-Hill is the latest. Although Jeane has in fact published before, and as many of us know, has been featured widely in topical magazines and even on TV. See this info just in about her latest book...

There are not many people who would want to be the ‘face’ of a cemetery but Jeane Trend-Hill from Langdon Hills Essex is no ordinary woman. She loves all things Victorian and collects albums, mourning jewellery and taxidermy and is also a Victorian-style actress and model. She spends much of her time in cemeteries where she photographs old monuments and writes about places of eternal rest. Jeane also advises on grave symbolism and is involved with monument restoration and preservation to help future generations enjoy an important past of our history and heritage.

To promote the recent Lambeth Cemetery open day, she was immortalised on their advertising posters resplendent in Victorian clothes and pictured with a Victorian hearse carriage. As well as producing her own series of cemetery monument books, The Silent Cities, Jeane has just completed her new book about hearses called Dispatches.

The idea came about when after having been invited to take the reins of a Victorian hearse carriage; she decided that was the way she would like to be ‘dispatched’ – in a traditional horse drawn funeral. After photographing many of these unique forms of transport she was persuaded to put them into a book and Dispatches was born, or dispatched!

Dispatches contains over 50 stunning colour images of interesting and unique hearses from Victorian glass carriages to modern motorcycles with hearse sidecars.
