The Disney Magic

This was clearly the most popular ship to come to Dover for quite some time...judging by our postbag of pictures of it in all guises and angles. Feedback suggests that people loved its sleek yet traditional lines in a very Hollywood style. As mentioned we have had a great collection of pictures sent in but have selected this one by reader John Mavin who sent us a batch covering every aspect, with all the different lighting conditions. Others also sent in pictures so we were spoiled for choice at the end of the day. The shot above shows the ship finally departing the harbour after its bigtime visit....but whats this...Gadzooks and Caramba!! someone has left Goofy still painting away at the rear sign... Can somebody call the captain and let him know before we have to send out a "Dog Overboard!" SOS!!

We have some more pix to add to this feature later when we regroup, so watch for those...alas we didnt get an invite to go onboard but we have made doooo, but obviously would have liked to give a more comprehensive coverage. Close up of Goofy to come later though, with a bigwig or two boarding....

Yes here we are with a bigwig or two.. the picture on the left shows our all new fresh out of the box Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayoress..Yes its Cllr David Hannent with the Lady Linda herself.. Linda Hannent. This was one of their first engagements, this time representing Dover to the high powered Disney organisation and a very good job they did of it too by all accounts. The picture here was taken by Colette Boland prior to the couple boarding. More soon..

And yes here we are with the extra pics from the Disney Magic. The picture above is one of Deputy Chairman of Dover District Council and legend in her own time, Sue Nicholas, and perhaps even more importantly..the Sue Nicholas hat! Unfortunately Colette B, our photographer on the spot, forgot to put her flash on for this one, so Sue's face was dark underneath the hat. I had to take 'force measure' to render the picture viewable so its the best we can do. Tip for all photographers everywhere...if the subject is wearing a wide brimmed dark hat use your flash...40 lashes will follow for ColetteB in Market Sq followed by a period in the stocks. But glad to use this program boosted picture anyway...as it captures one of Sue's legendary hats.

The picture on the left courtesy of David Hannent shows the man himself meeting Mickey Mouse. This is a great treat for anyone, even for kids I believe, meeting the legendary Mickey and as we can see the Deputy Mayor is very impressed. Looks like a nice lounge there behind too...Pink Gin anyone!!? On the right hand side we have a shot of the open air decking being graced by the Town Clerk Mr Mike Webb and again..that's that lady with the hat looking fab... Sue Nicholas.

Well we promised you Goofy close up and here he is. Someone from the HMCoastguard has managed to contact the Ship and Goofy has now been taken onboard properly and without any mishap...so kids everywhere can sleep well tonight. He didnt spill a drop of that paint either...well so it says on the wires, but I dont think I believe that last bit about the paint!

Have used this extra one and its a lovely picture too, because there has been discussion on the Cruise Liner thread in the Members Club Forum here on Doverforum, about the beautiful backdrop Dover offers the cruise liner visitor. Where Southampton in comparison is all docks and grey buildings and what have you....Dover has this wonderful vista showing above. A plus point surely not lost on the Cruise Liner companies. Picture of course shows Deputy Mayoress Linda Hannent and Deputy Mayor David Hannent in fine fettle.

Thats all Folks!

Many thanks to all the guys who helped out with the pictures.
Next time Disney make sure we get an invite! Its a bit harder for us doing it piecemeal as it were.
