6 June 2010

All the pictures and story from the fabulous Rolls Royce Seafront Celebrations.
Thousands thronged to the seafront to see the amazing cars today Sunday June 6. The Event was to mark the occasion when Charles Rolls of Rolls Royce fame made that first and historic non-stop return flight across the English Channel in 1910. Every conceivable Rolls Royce was on show in the most stunning display ever...the weather picked up too as the day went along, rendering the occasion very pleasant indeed. A great and very special day on Dover seafront. More pictures and words coming soon...Dont Miss it!..Yes here we are..

After rather a grey start the weather turned nice and fine and even warm. Dover seafront went sub-tropical...well sort of. But it brought out the very best in people everywhere. And here above we see the very best from the Dover Town Council. On the left we have the newly elected Deputy Mayor, and of course a tip top forumite here on Doverforum of long standing, David Hannent. In the centre is the ever popular and pleasant Mayoress Ronnie Philpott...and on the right hand side the successful Mayor herself now in a second term of office, Sue Jones. Sue went on to make a speech in fine style. There were three speeches in all, from Sue Jones as we said, from Bernard Butcher the Chairman of DDC, and from Ian Craighead, Head of Corporate Heritage at Rolls Royce.

Here's a brace of big titled bigwigs from the corridors of power at DDC/KCC. I wont try and attempt their illustrious titles but all are councillors bar one. From left the familiar face of another long term forumite and likeable man about town Nigel Collor. Nigel is a cabinet member at DDC and also our elected KCC representative. Next to Nigel is Pat Heath, who was for a considerable period of time DDC Chairman and very popular too. Then the also popular figure of Sue Chandler...also a main player at DDC as is Nicholas Kenton next to her. Last but not least is the non-councillor of the group but a familiar name to all...Nadeem Aziz, leading officer of DDC itself. Bringing up the rear and purposely so, is the all newly cleaned bronze statue of the celebrated Charles Stewart Rolls.

And now the man currently on the crest of a dynamic wave here in Dover, our all new MP, Conservative Charlie Elphicke. As the Conservatives swept into power at the recent election (..with the help of the LibDems!) Charlie was at the forefront of that changing tide here in Dover, producing a very big swing to the Conservatives indeed. From roughly a 5,000 loss last election, to a 5,000 gain this time around. So the people called out for change and Charlie is that change. Yes indeed.... Charlie is the new kid on the block. He is delightfully full of enthusiasm for the big job in hand and will do very well.

Taken from distance, a study in concentration as the speeches are listened to....Nigel Collor extreme left, then Nicholas Kenton partly hidden, then the Chairman of DDC's wife in dark shades, Mrs Bernard Butcher, then the newly elected local Labour Leader Gordon Cowan, then Pat Heath again and creeping in at the edge of the shot Nadeem Aziz. More on these guys above.

Well the event was all about Charles Stewart Rolls and of course his statue adorns our seafront here in Dover. To mark this fantastic anniversary there was a huge amount of fantabulous cars ...all along the seafront. One has many pictures...so just to select a couple of cars at random...this nice Yellow Rolls Royce above is just right for yours truly. Very beautiful. The crowd thrilled to the fantastic automobiles.

On the other hand this one is also terrific..oooh...spoiled for choice!

Not someone known to us here on Doverforum. Just snapped this very nice lady visitor as she enjoyed the sudden summer sunshine here in Dover, and as you can see she is clearly all prepared for the picnic to come. And with that picnic perhaps that ideal drink for a summer sunday, a nice glass of Pimms dont ye know! All very civilised.
Thats all folks! Obviously have many more pictures but sadly cant fit everyone in. Catch you next time!
