VILLE DE CALAIS “GOES TO TOWN” WITH CHRISTMAS 2007 EXTRAVAGANZA
Following the success of previous years’ Calais Christmas Festivities, the town will be staging its biggest ever Christmas Extravaganza from Friday 30th November including food markets, parades, children’s entertainment, a circus, arts festival and more, transforming the town’s two main centres during the festive season.
Christmas in Calais is launched by the Town’s Mayor on Friday 30th November with the switching-on of the Christmas lights. This will be the start of a non-stop programme of entertainment with many events and attractions taking place throughout December and into early January 2008.
The highlights and biggest events in this year’s Christmas spectacular will take place over the weekend of Friday, Saturday, Sunday 7th / 8th / 9th December with a Gourmet Market - located in the Place d’Armes (North) main square – featuring 50 stands offering traditional food and drink, foie gras, poultry, cheese, farm produce, sweets, wine, Champagne, Christmas gifts, hampers, plus a tasting area and sit-down restaurant serving local produce.
Climax of this weekend will be a Christmas Parade on Sunday 9th December which starts at 2.30pm in the Place Crevecoeur, finishing in the Place d’Armes. This will feature a Fire and Light show, Gypsy Horses, Costume Parades, folk music and a parade of Turkeys. In the Place d’Armes there will be a turkey barbeque, mulled wine and chicken soup – a speciality from the village of Licques.

Shoppers’ Market – 7th / 8th / 9th December – organised by the Commercial Centre of Calais, located near to the Place Crevecoeur (South town centre) – selling Christmas decorations and many (non food or alcohol) speciality gifts ;

Zavatta Circus” – 7th / 8th / 9th December - internationally renowned circus with animals, clowns, jugglers and other performers providing entertainment for both children and adults.
Roller Coaster – 15 m high and 32 m long a thrilling ride for all the family ;
Children’s Village – 15th December – 6th January 2008 - created out of timber including a roundabout, Duck Fishing, Skittle Alley and Creche ;
Festive Tours – 7th / 8th / 9th December – see all the decorations around the town by Land Train or Horse Drawn Carriage throughout December ;
“Feux d’Hiver” – 27th – 31st December – a four day artistic festival with various musical and theatrical performances and events based around the theme of fire ;
