9 February 2013...I have been saying it for a long time and now it has been confirmed, your recycling ends up in landfill, well a lot of it does anyway. Who says so? DEFRA, the most authorative source there is on this.
The only stuff I bother to re-cycle is paper and that is only because it is convenient to me. I would bet a lot of that end up in landfill as well.
So all that time and all that inconvenience, all these ugly bins that blight our streets - it is a waste of time.
Yes - we do have a problem with rubbish and I have no problem with the principals of recycling, far from it. But I do have a problem with how it is being operated and how the emphasis is placed on householders. It needs to be tackled at the distribution end, all that excessive packaging on so many products. That is where the emphasis must go and why not bring back deposits on bottles?
My advice - don't bother with it. If we mugs did not play ball then they will have to re-think what they do.
The outcome of all this green let's save the planet because big boy says We're in danger of dying because of global warming environmentalists are nice people who love animals and are not greedy evil right wing fascists like Hitler David Attenborough is a lovely man blah, blah, blah is that not only is it costing us millions in having to buy the bins but by sending rubbish to landfill local councils have to pay huge fines.
As it stands the fines are set at £84 per tonne. It's cost Worcestershire County Council alone £6 million - think about that, that's just one county council.
Anyone ever thought about who makes those ugly recycling bins which make our towns and cities look positively third World? - A German company called Schneider. Reminds me of wind turbines which are all made abroad. Did anyone mention screwdriver economy under the Tories?
For those worried about the "evils" of carrier bags think about this.
Each 120 litre size wheelie bin contains the equivalent of many thousands of carrier bags. Weird eh? And the EU want the carrier bag outlawed.
Never, ever trust anyone who calls their self an an environmentalist.
It puts them in the same category as a labour, liberal or conservative politician.
