18 October 2012...that will disappoint Labour supporters....
The number of people in employment is up at an all time record high while unemployment is back below 8% with a big drop in youth unemployment.
We need to be a bit cautious over these figures though because up to half of the 'new' jobs over the last 6 months are thought to be temporary and as a result of the Olympics. Even allowing for that these are good figures and show continued travel in the right direction.
The Spectator Coffee House blog has some interesting graphs that make a mockery of Labour claims. It also fully supports the case made by people like me that the excessive public sector burden has been crowding out private sector jobs. Create a job in the public sector and it costs at least one in the private sector. Seeing that it is the private sector that ultimately pays for the entire public sector it is in the private sector where we need the jobs for a healthy and sustainable economy.
