Regardless of what the British Eurofanatics like Cleggy may claim a renegotiation of Britain's relationship with the EU is possible and already the EU leadership is thinking about an associated membership for the UK. This is clearly an attempt to cobble together something that will suit the purpose of the EU rather than the UK.
Whatever they come up with though, it will not be what we want. They will still want all the cash, they will still want to tie our hands with their rules and red tape, they will still want to reduce our competitiveness with the rest of the world to their level. At the same time they will want to remove us from the EU's decision making including the European Parliament..... Basically they want it all to suit them.
That's fine, as their initial bargaining position, but the final arrangement should be very different. The good news is that they now seem to be accepting what is increasingly inevitable - Britain will re-negotiate its relationship with the EU.
- there have been some threatening noises coming from brussels along the lines of "put up or shut up" but just a phoney war at present until all parties decide to have talks on the future of britain's role.

Suppose you were a member of the yacht club. And suppose they wanted control over your affairs. And suppose you wanted to resign from the club and you had to negotiate a withdrawal with the other members. Would you not think it was unreasonable that you could not just give notice and leave? - the whole eurosceptic view is blinded by distrust.the gungho attitude of some politictions is making the uk as a whole a laughing stock of europe.
unless the the whole returic is redefind we the uk will be outsiders,and being an outsider open to the butts of jokes around europe. - Rubbish Brian. The EU is a disaster for its members and we need to get out. One example, look at the Euro - the UK proven right in not joining. I could go on also about corruption, petty red tape and rules, cost, big government interference and so on.
- b arry if you think europe is in a mass with corruption etc,why not try looking in the uk's back yard.the uk is in a worst state than europe,no wonder people are emagrating to foringe fields.

I read the Hannan piece, "If we can't do a deal with Europe, leaving it should hold no terrors". in the Telegraph earlier today. He seems certain that he should have retained the right to have his children rattle around the back of the car, and curses the party-pooper EU for keeping his children safe.
While at the same time, Nigel-like, he scoops up whatever cash is on offer via this same terrible EU bureaucracy. - Barry is against Britain having an In/out referendum, as always.

- Alexander - I am indeed because an In/Out would set us up for EU membership forever more. It is far too important to risk on a toss of a coin and the kind of scare campaign the Eurofanatics will run.
The fact that you are unable to grasp the subtleties of this does not say much for you. Are you a secret pro-EU mole I wonder? wanting to keep is in. - For ever more? Does that mean eternity in your vocabulary, Barry?
The EU teams of the world are not God Almighty.
One just has to know how to say NO to them! - barry,not as bad as eurosceptics version.
