This safe Labour seat is having a by-election to replace Labour MP Denis McShane and I would actually be tempted to vote UKIP in this seat if I lived there.
Two reasons... firstly it is, as I said, a safe Labour seat and there are tactical reasons for it but, secondly - because of the scandal of the Rotherham thought police.
We have seen this week a shining example of the politically correct bigotry and stupidity of so many left wing social services departments. Those responsible for deciding to remove those children from foster carers because they were UKIP members are unfit for their job. These lefty pc monsters are just as bad as the racist monsters of the BNP, bedfellows that feed on each other.

So yes - if in Rotherham, this week I would be tempted to vote UKIP and there would be no better response to the pc mob.
So could parliament get its first UKIP MP compliments of the Rotherham Social Services? A nice thought and I suspect they will get a good vote, maybe even come second, but to win is a stretch of expectation too far. But who knows.... Friday we will.
- It's good to know that the Social Services Department of the district of Dover and Deal is in the safe hands of Charlie Elphicke. Busy fellow that he is.
- I must admit I always had rather a soft spot for Dennis McShane. He was active and likeable and cropped up regularly on TV programmes making the Labour case in an engaging way. Was very sad therefore to find that he had cheated us voters out of thousand and thousands of pounds with fake invoices. There was a prevailing culture of them all doing similar of course...some worse than others but sadly I think oul Dennis was among the worst. His only option, the situation in his case being so bad, was for him to resign..hence this by-election.
How that plays out with the voters will be the big issue , as will the recent fiasco over the adopted kids as mentioned by BarryW above. But will it shoe UKIP in? I find it hard to thinkso. UKIP have been played up big before. Nigel Farage for example was expected to win last time out ( not in Rotherham ) but came a solid second and didnt trouble the winner too closely.
This is a traditonal Labour seat. McShane held it since 1994 and was always pro Europe, being a Europe Minister at one time, the voters knew he was pro Europe and always voted him in...would they stand things entirely on their head now and vote anti-europe because of a local social services spat. - PaulB I suspect that pro-EU views were not what got him elected, more his Labour label and there is no more pro-EU feeling there than anywhere else.
Tom - you know as well as I do that an MP is not in charge of Social Services but that does not mean that a specific local issue such as this will not influence a parliamentary by-election. Nice change though for it to be that way around rather than it being national issues influencing local elections.
What this election does do is provide a great forum for people disgusted by the Rotherham thought police to give these bigots a very public two finger salute. - Unfortunately UKIP don't stand a chance, Rotherham is one of the seats where a monkey could stand in a red rosette and win. PaulB mentions McShane being pro Europe, I doubt 99% of the electorate in Rotherham knew his stance on Europe.
- So how, exactly, do you propose tackling the political correctness that has infected the conservative party Barry? It certainly is not immune from this disease especially under the leadership of David Cameron.
- Sadly you are right Philip. It is a cancer that infects far too many of our institutions and needs to be cut out. The only way to deal with it is by more and more people acting deliberately non-pc. I make a point of it.

- If UKIP come second at Rotherham, there is a likely-hood that 60% of Tory supporters nationwide will go over to support UKIP.
- No Alexander. Local factors and the difference between local by-elections and general elections mean that you cannot extrapolate as you have done.
- Barry, Thursday coming there will be three parliamentary by-elections.
Will the Tories win any of the seats?
At the last three by-elections 2 weeks ago, Labour won all three seats. - Of course not Alexander, all are Labour held. We need to be realistic.
