New website seeking memories of park life at Kearsney Abbey & Russell Gardens

Friday, 3 October 2014
A new website promoting Kearsney Abbey and Russell Gardens (www.kearsneyparks.co.uk) is looking for people to share their memories of the parks as part of the £3.3 million Heritage Lottery Fund 'Parks for People' project.

As well as information on the planned restoration of the Kearsney parks, the website also provides an insight into their history and information on visiting the parks.

It was announced in July that DDC had been successful in achieving a £3.3 million funding commitment from the Heritage Lottery Fund and Big Lottery Fund. In addition to plans to uncover the rich heritage of Kearsney Abbey and Russell Gardens, the 'Parks for People' project also provides new opportunities for people to get involved through volunteering, a 'Friends of Kearsney' Group, and participating in events and community activities at the parks.

Cllr Nigel Collor, portfolio holder for access and property management, said: "The Parks for People project at the Kearsney Parks is not just about bricks and mortar. Generations of local people and visitors have played, visited and even worked in the parks and the great country houses and estates that preceded them. We want to capture this important social history."
