New council housing set to be built in Elvington

Monday, 14 April 2014
Three new homes are set to be built for Dover District Council on land at Adelaide Road in Elvington. A meeting of DDC's Cabinet has today (14 April 2014) considered tenders for the work and has selected a winning tender from Jenner Contractors Ltd.

This follows a decision by Council in October 2012 to support the development of social and affordable housing on council owned land. In November last year, Cabinet agreed to approve in principle the development of the site at Adelaide Road. Planning consent for the building of three new houses at the site in Elvington was granted on 31 July 2013. Construction work is expected to start later this year.

These new homes will be financed from developer contributions for affordable houses, Right to Buy receipts and Housing Revenue Account (HRA) balances. The houses are a pilot scheme for DDC's wider plans to develop social and affordable housing.

Martin Leggatt, DDC Head of Assets and Building Control said: "We are very pleased to be able to award the tender for this work. We look forward to seeing work start in the near future in Elvington, and we continue to work to see other sites developed in the district to help provide affordable housing solutions for our communities."
