Bringing the community together - Chairman of Dover District Council's Civic Service

Monday, 24 March 2014
The Chairman of Dover District Council has welcomed the success of the Civic Service held at the Church of St Peter and St Paul in River on Friday (21 March 2014), and thanked everyone who came along and helped to bring the community together for the service.

The theme of the evening was hope and renewal, and it included a reading of William Wordsworth's 'Daffodils' and the singing of the popular hymn 'All Things Bright and Beautiful'. The evening included performances from the River Church Choir, and the River Primary School choir, and a speech from the Chairman of Dover District Council. There was also a charitable collection for the Pilgrims Hospice in Canterbury.

Cllr Sue Nicholas, Chairman of Dover District Council, said: "The theme of this service was hope and renewal, and we were very pleased to welcome a range of guests on the evening. This was a great opportunity to bring members of the community together, to look forward to the future and to raise funds for a good cause. A number of people very kindly gave their time to help organise this service, which was a great success, and I would like to thank everyone who supported the evening."
