UK Border Agency officers in Dover have charged two men from Liverpool with drug smuggling.

Edward Davis, 48, of Marsden Road, Liverpool and Robert Pritchard, 62, of Grey Road, Liverpool have been remanded in custody until they next appear at Dover Magistrates Court on 11 February 2010.

The men were arrested following an incident on 6 February at the inward freight controls at Dover's Eastern Docks. UK Border Agency officers searched a van and found approximately six kilos of cocaine with an estimated street value of £240,000 in a rucksack in the rear of the van.

Enquiries by UK Border Agency investigators are continuing.

Paul Booth, Assistant Director for the UK Border Agency, said:

"UK Border Agency officers work tirelessly 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to detect and prevent drugs from being smuggled into the UK. We are determined to prevent this terrible trade which can have such a destructive impact on the lives of so many.

"Anyone with information about activity they suspect may be linked to drug smuggling should call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
