Another week and supposedly another NHS crisis, Junior Doctors this time, with petitions to sign and political capital to be made of a service which, depending on which paper you read, has been on the verge of collapse since its foundation.

If people actually want to do something about the NHS rather than moaning perhaps they could follow the few simple steps which I try to adhere to.

1.Stop going to your GP for stupid reasons and stay out of A&E unless it's an actual emergency.

2.Take responsibility for yours and your families health and refrain from taking so much drink and/or drugs that your organs fail.

3.Stop eating so much that you are a health hazard.

4.Start paying for medication like paracetamol and ibuprofen rather than having it for free just because you can.

I'm not suggesting that this would be a panacea for all NHS problems but it might at least allow the NHS to prioritise its limited resources better.

To improve our health we don't all need medical training, we just need to be a little less stupid.
