European army
- 12 November 2018 15:14351220This issue keeps coming up but I don't see how it could ever work. From our point of view if Spain blockaded Gibraltar who would the proposed army side with? We have two member states from the former Yugoslavia with doubtless others joining in the future and i wouldn't bet against old grudges turning into serious flare ups. There are many separatist groups in the Southern and Western member states which would resent outside interference.

howard mcsweeney1 likes this - 12 November 2018 20:42351239You're being a trifle unkind John as Sir Nick did opine some time back that the EU had become arrogant, aloof and didn't understand people's patriotism which now manifests itself as nationalism across the EU. Getting back to the army there all sorts of questions about the logistics, common language etc, who would give orders - the only certainty is that Italy would be put in charge of surrenders.Brian Dixon and John Buckley like this
