Ian makes a valid point, I was born and brought up in Canning Town in London's east end and the play points were bomb sites.

I particularly remember the " bombed odeon" which opened at the beginning of hostilities and after a couple of Clark Gable matinees was reduced to a shell by the Luftwaffe.

As kids we spent most days when we were not in school clambering over these places and aside from a few cuts and bruises we all survived and went home for tea.

We are incredibly lucky to have a great seafront and beach and it is mainly well used, not seen the problem people that Brian refers to down there.
