I see Augusta has arranged yet another event .Burying a time capsule .Seems be covering everything . Even to the fact the
Queen on the 9th will become the longest reigning monarch .all in the Dover Express .I gather Councillors have been invited.
It would have been good to have held a church service .Re the Queen

Well yet another wreath laying and a memorial .It would have been more appropriate to have had a group of children to bury the time capsule. The constant wreath laying is diminishing the significance of 11th November I would ask who paid for this memorial?

I cannot what it was all about. I can understand the time capsule to mark the reign of her majesty but why lay wreaths if she is still with us? Just devalues ceremonies like Remembrance Sunday.

So you can get your picture in the local paper?
To be fair I think it also commemorates VE, VJ as well as E 11 R, one of the Dover Express pictures show a close up.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

Surely wreaths are placed to commemorate sad things, VE/VJ were celebratory events.

I have just looked into the Dover Locals site .I agree with Graham Morris too many memorials. Yes Jan picture seeking .I attended many events but I did not seek publicity .Naturally if it was to record something DDC were promoting that was different .
I have only just noticed how the local papers have increased their charge. That's £2 I will not spend in future.

I agree with Sue, I thought local school children should have been involved, they will be around in 30 years, we won't!

I don't think the wreaths were appropriate and to be honest all the pictures make it look like a sad burial. I can't see any smiles for this glorious memorial of the Queen's reign. And were did they get the poppies from at this time of the year?

Yes Brian you are correct RBL .Why it was necessary to have the time capsule buried in this manner beggars belief .Too many services of this kind .Someone needs to stand up to Mrs Pearson. We should be helping those X serviceman who have returned from war Zones either bodily or mentally injured .War is not to be glorified.
Dover has a fine War Memorial and the 11th day of the 11 month is when we remember.

Members of the British Legion were there .I would imagine the wreaths were purchased from the British Legion factory at Aylesford.

I saw Ted and Ian outside the Port of Call on Saturday morning, both members of the local British Legion branch, I don't know whether they were going to/coming back from the event or neither.

Just catching up on all the new posts on the forum and this one made me cross. Who is this Augusta woman? I've never heard of her but asking around today I'm not impressed with her. It would seem that she likes to be in the news and to stir up arguments from what I've been told.
With regard to the time capsule - every capsule that I've known about being buried was done by school children which is how it should be, as Pam says - they'll be around a lot longer than most of us. Our lovely Queen has ruled our country for so many years that we should be celebrating her with smiles and happiness, not long faces and wreaths.
As Sue said, VE day and VJ day are both part of our remembrance day services and should remain that way. OK I know, as Howard says these two dates were happy ones but I personally don't feel they should be lumped in with the celebration of our Queen.
Sue I have a lot of admiration for you as you know. You work quietly without wishing to get your face in the press. This lady could, and should, learn a lot from you x
There's always a little truth behind every "Just kidding", a little emotion behind every "I don't care" and a little pain behind every "I'm ok".

Thank you Jacqui .Some Councillors just love to be in the press. Let us hope Augusta will not find another date when she can lay a wreath and have a service .I was not happy to learn DDC paid for the memorial. Why they inscribed it with E R I don't know and to place a wreath on it where was the respect.

You're welcome Sue
There was no respect at all - downright disgusting .
