Seems some confusion over who he is the patron saint of, below is from the "Duchess" facebook page and the Golden Lion refers also to a British celebration in a window poster.

Always a clamour on this day each year for it to be made a public holiday. I find the idea impractical with with other holidays so close to the date.I have only seen one car bedecked with the flag today it doesn't seem to capture the imagination of the public in the same way as St Patrick's day.

You can't promote St George's Day nowadays without being accused of racism or membership of the BNP or worse. St Patrick's Day is fine because that's Diversity.

I'm all for more bank holidays! Just move St Georges Day, I'm sure it doesn't really matter what day it is.
