I see WH Smiths have installed one.A member of staff was operating it yesterday .Elderly lady me included looking amazed .When my items went through it would not give the change.I had to wait whilst the member of staff had to reset the machine.Reason for this post. Why is it we have to wander round finding the goods we want then expected to put it through a machine for payment.Surely we are paying for the goods.Cant they provide staff to take your money ?.They do still have some tills with staff. But we do seem to have gone down the road of do it your self.
My late Dad used to man petrol pumps at our local garage those were the days.
It is supposed to be progress.
If you have to phone your bank or any large organisation it's press button this press button that.
I have just received the agenda for next weeks council meeting .I have to read all the reports on my I Pad .One of the reasons I'm retiring. It gets very complicated.

I won 't use them on principle, just a way of cutting staff and not passing any savings on to the consumer.

Like you Howard I won't use them, I always have an 'unidentified item in the bagging area', won't dispense change, won't scan item - aggghhhhh! I'd rather queue.

Same here Andy! Don't you get sick of "please place item in the bagging area" and "unexpected item in the bagging area" and "please wait for assistance" etc etc.
By the time you finish you might just as well have gone through a normal till.lol
I have to admit I have answered one back before now - have you? lol
There's always a little truth behind every "Just kidding", a little emotion behind every "I don't care" and a little pain behind every "I'm ok".

I always get strange looks when I answer back. 'Yes Dear' usually raises a smile or two.

I tried them once, never again regardless of how long the queue is at a proper till.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.
