I do feel sorry for the way that Ferry Link have been treated but there is away round it.
If I was running the service I would buy Port Ramsgate OR RENT IT and run my ships out of there they can still run into any port in France or even Spain it is only a few miles round the coast and If I was a lorry driver waiting at the Dover for hours on end I would be heading there if they run into France from there it would not take that much longer .Also if that shipping service is run by the tunnel they could send the lorrys booked on the train over to there if like now the tunnel is not in full use.
They could hire in more ships if the need be
TO TAKE OVERLOADS. Port Ramsgate needs to reopen it would be a winner for all and make more jobs.

It would need to be a professionally run port & removed from local authority interference. Even then it would struggle with new emission requirements & longer sea time journeys

Is Ramsgate harbour deep enough to take the MyFerry Link vessels?

That is true but that can be done and the local authority would gain by more funding .Thank you for your post sir.I did work in that port a lot over the years welding etc you have the tunnel thats will take lorrys into the port without blocking the town up. Yes it would take funding to set it up again but that has been done in the past but it was not done right as we all know .But they could run ships again there within a few days.

Hi Vic your views you describing in post 1 it is not possible, As this is still cross channel business. Unless they are going from Ramsgate to Spain etc, Then it would be perfectly fine. Anything going across Channel is virtually the same Issue ...
Does it make sense?

Ramsgate is the only way at this time that might bring a end to the mess they are now in with lorrys .It would take longer getting across but that would be better then what is going on at this time.
If I was the UKIP leader now and standing for Election round there I would be shouting that out from the roof tops it would be a vote winner there on the job front.

Its OK sir I have got use to this kind of posting over the years and take no notice of it.
If you are reading my life story you will see much later that the port of Ramsgate played a big part in my life at one point and very sad it was.

Well if you don't understand either Reginald then I feel for you. Councillor Watkins is a man who posts facts, not drivel. Vic takes no notice because he will never admit he is wrong. Everything has to be about him or to his credit.
I don't read his life story because it doesn't interest me, if it interests you go ahead and read it, he has the right to post what he likes.
I for one (of many) am glad PaulW keeps us up to date with facts and I thank him. So please don't try to sound clever against him Vic - you won't win

Back to what I started there is still 2 births that could be put back into services , Ramsgate is very small and not much room for parking. but when I was working there some years ago the lorrys would come in and load up there and then and once that was done the ship was off ,using ships out of there just for lorry,s would help stop the madness we have now on our motor ways in Kent,it would not stop it but be a big help but the good thing about Ramsgate is the tunnel down to the port well away from the town and lets face it that tunnel was build for just that, get the lorrys in and out of the port .
