no not another animal thread lol
today on the BBC reports on the time it takes pedestrians take to cross roads at pelican crossings and some councils(bradford) who use puffin crossings, whereby the lights won't change until all pedestrians are off the crossing.
it was reported that car owners are impatient
and calls for the pedestrian crossing times to be extended.

Despair not Keithy, the thread has only been up 15 minutes or so...just as soon as the elderly/vulnerable get across the road they will add their tuppence worth.

I'll soon be old enough to cross the road like a real elderly person - where and when I like and shaking my walking stick at the traffic to make it stop.

I saw the item Keith.
I have walking problems and there is not enough time allowed not just for the elderly and disabled but mothers with walking toddlers also a have problem. Luckily I know the sequence at the Charlton Green lights so no longer wait for the green man to light up before crossing once I have pushed the button, not exactly the best safety method I know.
I knew the Pelican ode but did not know the Puffin ode, thanks gents good one.

i don't think many motorists and pedestrians understand the flashing lights at pelican crossings judging by what i see on a daily basis.

it horrifies me at the crossing at the town hall heading over ladywell to go up town
the number of pedestrians that cross without even looking back where cars car from
friend of mine was knocked over there never realy recovered and sadly since died

The flaming thing by Morrisons was not working earlier this morning as the men were working on it so gritted teeth.

the one at ladywell is not a pelican crossing keith, certainly agree with you about the kamikaze pedestrians though.
it seems like a game of "chicken" sometimes, drivers must be at their wits end with some of the antics.

I agree with Jan, my walking is getting slower - increase the time a bit !
I think the pelican rhyme was by Edward Lear ???

kath
have you and jan given any thought to investing in a skateboard?
you'd get across a lot faster and put the wind up other pedestrians at the same time.

I would certainly like to see the time extended on these crossings, surely safety must come first and motorists should not really complain, a little more patience is all that is needed

Motorists would be more patient if people refrained from starting across when the little green man has already started flashing.

the problem is that many people do not understand the flashing lights, motorists and pedestrians alike.

I've always thought the flashing man should be red or amber, but not green.
