The cuts are absolutely savage, more devastation in peoples lives through no fault of their own.

It is always the working class that get hit the MPS again have looked after themself with a 10% rise and ex spending money on top. And it is all partys that get it they do not turn round and say no to it.Never have they had a cut in funding it is not fair on any of us even as a O.A.P. my funds coming in are the same as 4years ago and I am one of millions that worked up to and pass the age of 65.never out of work .

The GMB are demanding that the top brass at P & O take a similar chat to show fairness but management argue that their remuneration is in line with the other ferry operators on the channel.
I don't think there will be a strike though.

Reality Street
Wages have gone down in most private sector working class jobs.
The labour market is overflowing with cheap labour,,,and the bosses love it.

Would have thought the proportion of ex DHB workers on P&O was fairly small? terrible situation for the staff to be in.

This is haw most uk contract work is usually dun and won ,, whether it be construction work or apple picking or tying up boats if they get their way
Company one wins the contract, and money changes hands
A percentage of that money is then given to a east European gang master installed on the job ,he then recruit from his home land and takes a cut from all the workers,
The EU worker can work for peanuts because the currency exchange works to give them workers a very good wage for their work.
The company that have won the contract in the first place are not bothered about who works on the job as long as they get their cut.
In fact they win the contract because they can use a cheap gang master to under cut other companions.
The gang master and all the workers usually all disappear with out paying tax an NI.

Excellant news for those workers involved. It shows you don't need the big hand of Government.

P & O caved in purely because the staff were members of a union that fought their corner, the vast majority of workers in the private sector are not in unions so they get shafted.

Underestimated how many were in the union as only a small amount have it deducted from their wages is how it was told to me.
