There is a Roman building under St. Mary's church, should we demolish that and preserve the Roman foundations or condemn the church builders for "destroying our heritage"?

Dover has a rich heritage that can and should be preserved and promoted. A conservative list would include the Roman Painted House, the Museum with it's award winning Bronze Age Boat gallery, The Drop Redoubt, the Grand Shaft, the Town Hall, Maison Dieu House, St. Edmunds Chapel, the Dover College buildings, St. James Church, a lot of the buildings in Biggin Street, the White Horse PH, the Clock Tower and most the piers in the harbour, the old Pier Station/cruise terminal (which is being sympathetically restored by DHB), Dover Castle and some more.

Almost everyone agrees that the Western Heights and Dover Castle need to be connected to the town. There may be disagreement as to the means but most agree to the principal.

Dover has never fully recovered from four years of shelling and bombing by the Nazi's and desperately needs regeneration. There is no government (at any level) money for this so it needs to come from private investors. Buried history can be fully recorded and, with proper consideration, developers are the only way we are going to see Dover grow and prosper.

The National War Memorial proposal, which has the backing of councils, a great many people in the town and abroad as well as some notable historians, offers the chance to pay a debt to the fallen, promote investment in the Western Heights and celebrate Dover's respect for the past and hopes for the future.

The medieval village of Bradon is largely buried under the playing field (former gun range) but it's name lives on in the modern homes built around it.

Dover needs to move forward, needs investment and needs opportunities that will create the jobs that the people of Dover need.
