a pattern is emerging here keith, the leas closed down soon after you went for a drink there and nu-age/club karma has never recovered from your visit.
Some years ago (probably about 40) I went and interviewed Charles Vance the then owner. Extraordinary chap and very much a theatrical darling. He took over when Arthur Brough and his players left. Sadly I no longer have the tape, like so many artefacts it has disapeared into the blue yonder.
Saw the front page of the Folkestone Herald the other day and it was all about plans being passed to turn it into a block of flats and locals complaining that sea views would be restricted. All I can find is a planning application from 6 years ago where no decision has been reached.
The Victorian Society has placed the Pavillion on its 2017 list of the top ten most critically endangered buildings in England and Wales (along with the New Tiger's Head in Lee - know it well), and hopes that the extra publicity generated by the listing will help to prevent its being lost forever. Only urgent safety work has been carried out since planning permission was granted in 2015. The VS sees the building as having 'marvellous potential as a community space' and believes that without a 'sensitive restoration' the Pavillion is doomed.
Almost dead opposite, the Lift is not working due to expensive repairs needed to the braking system and I understand that the frontage at the bottom has now been vandalised.
