Help! My laptop runs on Vista and has decided to shut me out by not accepting my password. It starts up as normal, I type in my password and get the following message - The User Profile Service service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded. I have tried a few things from the handbook (useless item that it is) going to the auto repair page and trying various different options but nothing works and I cannot get past the password screen, any ideas anyone?
Oh yes, anyone got a phone number for Big Dave?
Thanks guys!
Phil.

Try F8 at start up and run in safe mode, if successful, go to system restore and go back a day or two.
Doubt if this will work though, as it is probably a virus, in which case you have a few options,
Try googling make and model, along with something like "start up error" or "cannot get past password page" ( or give me make and model and I will google for you)
Or you will need to restore to factory settings but then you would lose your files etc but these can be recovered most times and there are programs to remove passwords but you need IT mate or pc repair for that.
Hope that helps.

Hi Phil,
A simple method which has worked for me in the past is to unplug the laptop, remove the battery for 30 seconds, replace and try to power up again.
You could also try to start in safe mode by a series of taps on F8 on startup as Gary suggested and then using the Administrator account reset the password on your user account if you normally use one
There's also a chance that the virus Ransomware is the culprit:

Or the info on this link may be useful:
If none of these work for you I would suggest a clean reload of the operating system which will mean a complete loss of files so I hope you have a recent backup!
Good luck, keep us posted how you get on.
Do nothing and nothing happens.

I would only follow link below if you have some IT knowledge if you don't, return it to Toshiba or better still take it to local pc repair man.
If you decided to follow link I will give no guarantees, on your head be it.

the best part of a member's forum is sharing info that solves problems, even better that I have big dave's number, forgot to programme it onto my phone when it was on here a few months back.

Hooray!
Big Dave called yesterday and fixed the laptop, something to do with an update that went wrong, anyway, £25 and 25 minetes later I was back on line. If any of you have a problem then Dave is the man to get, Howard, Peter G and I have his number if you need it.

Excellent bloke, knows his stuff and never overcharges.
I had trouble getting my new I Pad started, he sorted it in about 10 minutes and didn't want to take any money for it!!

Had to call out Dave after experiencing severe problems and he turned up on time this morning, spent over an hour and a half sorting it and charged only 15 quid despite travelling from Aylesham.
Worth keeping a note of his mobile number in post 5.

Thanks I will add Big Dave's number to my contacts. I'm surprised that system restore didn't to the job. Curious which update caused the problem in case it happens to me!
