Does anyone happy to know what time the declaration is expected at Dover on 7 (or ( or rather 8) May?
When does it tend to be?

As the polling stations are open until 10.00pm and all the boxes have to be collected then verified I doubt a result will be declared until the 8th.Not withstanding there will be counts for DDC and Parish Councls.

Last time it was between 2 and 3 am on the Friday but they didn't have district, town and parish votes to count then. I would have thought it best to count the General Election votes on the evening then come back next day for the others.

The count will be held in Cruise Terminal 2 to allow space for both General & District Counts to be undertaken simultaneously. Expect decisions in the early hours of 8th.

How much are DHB charging, PaulW? What's wrong with the Town hall?

Perhaps the catering company that run the town hall are charging too much for overtime rates if it's going on to 6am, not a problem for DHB with a 24h operation

Town Hall is not large enough to deal with two counts simultaneously Peter. Don't know the costs these are funded from a separate Election fund administered from Central Government. Politicians get nowhere near this process & long may it stay that way.

Just a question that may be a bit silly to some..
If there are now no Members of Parliament and all are locked out of the House of Commons, what happens in the next five weeks if a National Emergency where to happen, can Parliament still be recalled and or who would deal with such an emergency?
Just a thought, knowing our troubled world.

You still have an Executive running the country until after the General Election, Harry. I believe they probably have sufficient powers to respond.

Who are the individuals that make up the executive Paul?

I think PaulW is referring to the Cabinet and other ministers.
