Another big name has signed up for the St James's development. Frankie & Benny's will let the restaurant unit alongside Cineworld. Another positive sign of a national chain taking real interest in Dover. As well as being hugely popular with those of us who live in Dover and the wider district, this will also provide another dining option for the many visitors who overnight in town before catching a ferry.

I have notice when going there now well the staff turn out and how hard they work so if you get a job in there you will always be on your feet working your hours out which is good makes the time go by and you should get good tips and in return we will get great hot food with good service so it is a win win for all,and the biggest winner of all will be Dover.
I think a thank you to the D.D.C should be in place they have taken a lot of slack from all of us me being one of them but it looks now they are on the right track at last so well done and I hope it turns out as planned.

Good news indeed.
Hopefully those signed up already - M & S, Cineworld, Holiday Inn Express, and now Frankie and Benny's, will start to attract others.
We need these CPOs resolved asap and start building.

It's great to see this moving and lets hope this keeps moving forward, with others getting on board.
Although not a fan of identikit planning and development, the employment and facilities can only be a big boost for the town - good stuff.
I'm sure it will also benefit the established eateries in the area, who can provide people who would like a nice meal before or after watching their film.

Unfortunately only on paper at the moment, building has yet to start.

But Jan - you can't get building started until all the paperwork - the legal process and CPO's (where necessary) resolved. I appreciate this has taken so much longer than anyone would have wished, but we are almost there.

Very true Roger it is just that with this site the 'paper work' seems to have gone on for years.
I would have thought the CPOs could have been sorted a lot earlier rather than leaving them until the last minute.

No they can't Jan - everything has to be "tidy" before CPOs issued - all the "i's" dotted and "t's" crossed, to mnake sure that there can be no legal reason why the CPO can't go ahead.

Roger, I think people understand that, what they don't understand is the time scale involved.
In comparison the London Olympics was awarded in 2006, a massively more complex project but the CPOs were issued and the site completed in 6 years. DTIZ has been on the cards for over 17 years.

Very simple Ray , you can't apply for a CPO with an out of date scheme. Requirement changes made by M&S & Cineworld needed to be incorporated before the CPO would be accepted by Dept.CLG for advertising. The viability of the scheme is another factor, you have to have tenants signed up -as in this case.

I understand from the plans that the scheme will result in a net reduction in the number of parking spaces. How does that affect the viability of the scheme, I wonder.
