After many emails (and sometimes photographs) about some of the various concerns in the area, I am pleased to announce the following.
If you live in the Folkestone Road area (including the Winchelsea and Clarendon areas) you can get involved in your local community at the Folkestone Road Community Hub in Winchelsea Street - at the end of the road.
Come along and find out about some exciting projects happening there and meet local organisations for advice and information.
ALL are welcome.
It will be open every Wednesday, starting on January 28th. from 4.30pm to 8.30pm
For more information about this, please do call 01304 872165

Who or what organisation is the driving force behind this initiative Roger?

Various departments at DDC Howard.
It's not a big-brother kind of initiative, but one that it is hoped will help local people feel that they are part of the local community as well as being supportive and informative, without being patronising.

Roger can I pass this information on, so it gets to know in the actual area? I know some People would be very keen to attend :)

Thought I'd bring this to the fore as I went to the Community Hub yesterday afternoon.
It started off slowly at 4.30pm, but within 10 minutes or so, many, many children, from about 8 or 9 up to young teenagers, turned up.
All were happy to be there, all were from Slovakia or Romania and as far as I could tell, spoke English. Some parents came too.
Some of the youngsters have signed up for boxing lessons, there was a knockabout with a football and two rooms set aside for class-room type of activities. Tea, coffee, hot chocolate and cold soft-drinks were provided.
PCSO's were there too and it was great to see the relationship they have built up with the local kids and their parents.
A number of youth workers, with an amazingly equiped bus, someone from Kent Fire and Rescue, a Community Warden; were all in attendance.
As important as all the above people were, one guy I was very happy to chat to, was from Migrant Helpline and his job is to help local East European migrants understand how to assimilate into the local community: what is acceptable behavoiour and what is not. In his own words "When in Rome.................."
His job is not to show how migrants can obtain benefits etc. but how to be better members of their local community. I will contacting some DDC departments as there a great need for his services.
One of the things that made me think, was that it looked like the youngsters were happy, (and behaving very well too) because they were being included and people were taking time for them - having something to do.
What was missing though, were Englsih kids, this project/initaitive is all about inclusion and integration; being assimilated into the local community.
If anyone from the local area - whatever nationality (Folkestone Road, Winchelsea, Clarendon areas), I would ask, please come along to the Community Hub on a Wednesday afternoon from 4.30pm. The kids can come along on their own or with their parents.

Roger, I have copied and posted your last post to Facebook sites that have quite a few members that live in the Folkestone road area, I hope you do not mind.
Already a few positive responses unfortunately I do not know where the people live.

Thanks for that report Roger, I think you will find that the English children think it is not intended for them.

Roger you might find this reply to my post interesting as it might explain why the English children were missing.
"Not advertised much, I live in Clarendon and have never heard of it."
I have now given her the address and phone number from the above poster.

Thanks Howard - it is most certainly directed at English youngsters - sorry, ALL youngsters.
It's a shame that they feel that way, hopefully, not for long. The whole point is integration and assimilation, getting people to understand and appreciate each other.
Thanks Jan - no I don't mind at all, very pleased really, Facebook has a lot of followers.
I understood that leaflets had been put round the Clarendon area as well as Folkestone Road. Hopefully now that more people know about it, more will turn up.

There have been lots of positive comments saying what a good idea etc and some saying how nice to hear from Roger.
One negative "Live in that area , no thanks," unfortunately it is her children who will loose out which is a shame.

Thanks for that Jan - very kind of those people to say that.
You can't please all of the people all of the time, as they rightly say, so I accept that, but is a shame that that person's kids will miss out on any activities organised by them.
