Here we are again, same place as before, on the footpath between Westbury Rd and Longfield Rd, behind the carages and close by the enterence to the allotments. This is the 4th occasion (to the best of my knowledge) that tipping has taken place here, can we not have a sign put up or the area fenced or something to prevent this from happening?

a good slap heike, i don't know where you get these terms from.
joking aside in theory this could have been taken to the tip but there have been instances where people have been turned away from there because they tried to deliver in vans which means that they were treated as trade rather than members of the public.

I am sure the waste people know the difference between traders and non traders?

The problem is that they dont know or care whos trade or non trade. The rules are that if you go to the tip in even the smallest of vans then they will treat you as trade waste and charge you.I will give you an example. Very recently a relative of mine brought some new furniture and decided to tip the old stuff. He went to the Dover tip in a small Citroen Berlingo van with the old furniture broken up to tip.He even showed the lady on the weighbridge the receipts for his new furniture and asked if he could dump like for like, the old stuff. She said he could but would have have to pay.He rightly refused and drove away.We loaded the stuff into a borrowed Mercedes estate, this car is bigger and probably has a bigger load carrying capacity than the van.We went to the tip and unloaded with no probs and nothing to pay.

One of the local councillors should be taking this up. Appalling that normal residents paying council tax should be charged just because they drive a van. From January next year we are going to be charged to have our bins emptied based on the number of times we put them out between January and March. There will still be a weekly collection but guess who will only be putting theirs out once a fortnight? There will be no resultant decrease in council tax. Every household will be issued with a credit type card allowing us to use the local tip 18 times per year in whatever vehicle we have and anything above this will be charged. Perhaps DDC could consider such a scheme.

The van he owns is used purely for his hobby which is fishing. His car is a very small hatchback,i think its a Suzuki. He is not a builder,he actually works in a freight office so i think he had every right to go to the tip in his van.It would have been impossible to fit everything into his small car.I believe there is a scheme where you can apply to the kcc for tip vouchers for a commercial vehicle(van) if you can prove that it is your one and only vehicle in your household. If successful you then get upto 20 visits per year i think to tip your rubbish. This system is already being abused by a few and if you are caught out the kcc will ask for the vouchers back. Finally,i have tried in the past to get a tel number for the Dover tip to inquire about dumping rubbish. It is impossible.DDC do not have a number for them or the weighbridge office so you have to contact the KCC in Maidstone whos phoneline gives you a long list of options and when you,ve picked the right one will put you on hold and you wait and wait till you get so fed up you give up.

nothing to do with ddc, kcc are almost impossible to contact by phone - e mail is the most effective way i find.

It is all very well going on about who charges what for what at the tip, or what type of car you drive, my problem is with people who flytip in my locale, I have reported this issue to the council and await an answer.

Sorry I'm sure. My point was that whatever council is involved they should consider changing their strategy and then you might not have to put up with all this fly tipping.

I will never cease to be amazed at the distance some people will travel to scatter their rubbish in remote country lanes and byways. It probably costs them more in petrol than they would be charged ( if at all) at the tip.
Phil, I do understand how frustrating this can be, I think most of the residents in the Folkestone Rd area can relate to your problem. Policing the culprits is not easy and the cost of removing the debris often falls on the poor soul who owns the land it's dumped on.

Mr Wyborn-Brown,i,m not just going on about charges and who drives what car ok.What my point is that if they made the tip more accesable,i.e,a tel number for the weighbridge and in genuine cases being able to tip with a commercial vehicle then you might not have all this crap dumped in your area,or mine or anybodys. If it were possible to ring the tip in advance then it surely must make life easier all round, especially for the tip staff who can often be hurled abusive language from irate public. As Howard mentions, trying to contact the Kcc is like banging ones head against a brick wall.

That looks a very nice locale for 'al fresco' tiffin, very bijou
Joking apart, good to meet with you today Phil, in total agreement with you regarding the above, it will end up costing the KCC more to have the offending rubbish removed from flytipping sites than the monies they would recoup from additional charges made to clients, Utter Madness!

we all seem generally in agreement that it should be simpler to dispose of bulky waste at the tip but before the new rules came in there was always a problem.

A few years ago, DDC offered a bulk collection service in Elvington. Waste was taken to a specified area on the morning of the collection and left for the wagon to collect. A few enterprising youngsters would knock doors and offer to take items for those who would have struggled for a small fee, they then used the money to support youth club outings.

when i first moved here there was a bulk waste service. i seem to remember it operated one day a week in four different locations, so in effect most people were fairly close to the vehicle once a month.

Most councils had a scheme like that which I have taken advantage of a few times when I lived in London & Surrey, I wonder if all councils have dropped this excellent anti flytipping service
