Dover is no different to most other places times have changed.I was born and brought up in West ham and In the 60's there were 12 cinemas endless pubs and cafes but television came in then went to colour l;eaving the area with one cinema.

Dance halls were the way to meet members of the opposite sex but that all changed with pubs having rock bands playing,

Yes there were jobs for everyone with many of us moving around on a regular basis, "down the road for a pound" was the term.
Unfortunately casual labour decreased with the advent of the JCB digger and other machinery, farm workers will testify to that.
