Peter Elmore is the first citizen living in the State of Georgia in the USA, to have swum The English Channel. He was born in Nashville, Tennessee at Vanderbilt University, and was raised in Richmond, Virginia, where he now resides. At the time of his swim he lived in Atlanta, Georgia, where he received a Bachelors degree in Economics at Emory University and was Captain of his college swimming team in 1985 & 1986. He was coached by Peter T.C. Smith of Manchester, England.
