Olympic Fever:

Lets face it we've all gone quite mad. We have taken leave of our senses...all normal life as we know it, like news programmes etc, has been suspended. News still goes on, but we ignore it as we grapple and grab for as many Gold Medals as possible..it will ebb back as soon as the Olympics are over, but of course news happens all the time, like life itself it has not been suspended.

But despite all, this Olympic Fever is infectious. It sneaks up on you when you least expect it and you're hooked. Today is a big big Gold Medal day. If you want to join in with the pulse racing fever see the item below on this page...
..it's all happening in Market Square Dover today Saturday August 4. See below.

Planet Dover...

The sun exploding around the cliffs this morning throwing its early light into and onto a sleeping Dover. Time about 5 am. Time to wake up, scratch your sleepy head, drink your orange juice and get on with the day. No, no, we haven't gone all californian ! What was striking this morning most of all was the cloud pattern again..strange clouds. Looking to all the world like billowing smoke on a massive scale. Had the planets collided? was the sun on fire?....ermm.. more than it usually is...but no all was well.

The Olympics..join in in Market Sq.

GOLD FEVER:

Picture left shows Bradley Wiggins, the nations favourite person right now, powering his way to Olympic Gold in the Time Trial event on wednesday. He has now won more Olympic medals than any other Brit ever. Not only that but three weeks ago he also won the fabulous Tour de France in blistering style. The first Brit ever to do that as well. Bradley has had quite a staggering month and the nation is enjoying it fully.

Below we have a picture of the badly injured former Olympic champion Fabien Concellara...Olympic Champion until wednesday...bravely trying to defend his Olympic Champion status while nursing a recently broken collarbone and an injured possibly broken wrist. He bravely struggled on but could do nothing to match Bradley in the end.

The rowers Heather Stanning and Helen Glover also won gold. Our first gold. And there have been others since....

FEEL ALIVE in....

MARKET SQ ON SATURDAY:

On Saturday 4 August, everyone is invited to watch all the latest action from the London 2012 Games on Dover’s Big Screen as athletes compete for twenty-five Olympic Golds - the most glittering and exciting day of the Games.

Olympic themed games, activities and performances will bring the Market Square to life from 11am to 4pm. Relax on large, brightly coloured beanbags as you get behind Team GB and watch the live coverage throughout the day.

There will also be a Junior and Adult Games Zone in the Roman Garden just off the Market Square and an under-5’s Play Zone with Bouncy Castle.

Dover District Council and Vista Leisure are hosting the free event, along with other voluntary groups and clubs promoting sport and showcasing the latest opportunities of ‘what to do’ and ‘where to go’ to get active and ‘feel alive’!

One such club is the Dover Gymnastics Club, which is gearing up for increased interest following the excitement of the men’s gymnastic team winning a bronze medal earlier this week. Club member Jon Green, who ran in the Olympic Torch Relay two weeks ago, will be at the event from 12 until 2pm inviting people to bring their own cameras and pay £1 to have their picture with the torch, the proceeds of which will go directly into the Club funds.

Cllr Sue Chandler, DDC Deputy Leader & Portfolio Holder for Community, Housing and Youth, said: “Dover District Council is pleased to host these events and hope it will enable people to enter into the spirit of the London 2012 Olympic Games”.

DDC’s Sport & Leisure Officer Sarah Philpott said: “Having the Olympic & Paralympic Games on home soil I hope will prove to be inspirational for people of all ages and abilities, and the Council website has lots of information about local clubs and activities available”.
