Marks and Spencer

***
100 Years in Dover!

At 9am today wednesday the 17th of August, Marks and Spencer did some celebrations of their own. The company have been selling goods to us here in this town for 100 years. Quite a long time indeed. M&S are very much a mainstream part of any town centre and I think it is safe to say how glad we all are that they are still very much part of Dover today.

The celebrations were excellent, there was champagne and nibbles available to all, and the first 50 customers even got a delightful goodie bag.

Mayor of Dover Cllr Ronnie Philpott did the necessary ribbon cutting with her usual jolly panache and the gathered citizens ambled forward to enjoy another day at Marks and Spencer here in Dover.

Picture above shows on the left General Manager Steve Vincent ready for the opening with champagne in hand, next to Steve is Cllr Ronnie Philpott Mayor of Dover, then pleasant staff member Elaine Moat.

Picture left shows Mayor Philpott again, this time wielding a mighty kitchen knife as she slices deep into the gloriously sumptious cake. Accompanied by Elaine again, who also has her hand on the knife! Picture right shows the cake in very tempting close up. Many thanks to Colette Boland for her help with the photos and info. PB.

One of our most striking cruise liners The Costa Magica arriving this morning in early light.

It always cuts something of an elegant bearing as it prowls slowly across the harbour with the aid of our tugboats. All is very calm today as you can see...

'A calm sea and a prosperous voyage.'

We have had a request asking us to show the Queen Mary 2 again, so here she is passing through last sunday evening in fine style.
