Three Amusing Stories

12 September 2007

Three amusing (and 100% true) stories.

Highgate Cemetery

I often visit Highgate cemetery in North London to take photographs. It’s very Gothic and romantic. It was about the 3rd or 4th time I’d been there, one really hot day in May and I joined the guided tour as usual. I loved the fact that no matter how many times I’d been on the tour I always discovered something new. We had only just gone a little way round when I felt faint. The guide kindly gave me some of her bottled water and I sat on the edge of a tomb for a minute whilst she continued her talk, so as I wouldn’t hold anyone up. Feeling a little better off we set again only to get to the top of the main path where I hit the ground! She radioed for one of the guy’s to come and collect me - oh the shame of being carried out of a cemetery! The next thing I knew I woke up looking at an angel. I figured I must have died and gone to heaven but was quickly brought back to earth by the offer of a coffee. Yes, I was in the office and the angel was a stone carved one awaiting fixing onto someone’s’ grave! I’ve never managed to live it down!!

Funeral

I was attending my cousin's funeral and busying myself at the back of the church sorting the wreaths from the relatives. I had left my handbag in a corner when to my horror my mobile rang and echoed around the church. My Emenim "Stan" ring tone could be heard by all! Needless to say the priest was not amused!!

Brompton Cemetery

At Brompton cemetery open day I visited the catacombs. I saw a very tall thin man join the back of the group five minutes after we went down there. He stayed away from everybody else and I keep sneaking looks as there was something 'odd' about him. After fifteen minutes he vanished into thin air. I asked the guide about him and he checked with the bloke on the door, no one had entered or left and the group was limited to twenty people. On asking another guide he told me that there had been a very tall thin grave digger who worked there, he fitted my description re clothing, hair etc.......except he died two years earlier!!
