Social Page No3 - The Asda Marquee in Pencester/Mary Graham and all that Custard!

3 July 2007

Asda come to Town. Yes so far its just the Marquee but the store is on its way. For those of you who want to find out more pop along to the big tent in Pencester Gardens where all the Asda plans for Dover will be explained. The Marquee is there all weekend. At a gathering to launch the event were some of our Fab Forumites and naturally enough all were delighted to be captured on camera.

The picture on the left shows Councillor Roger Walkden mingling with 'the enemy', yes its none other than TCM's jovial and highly active Sarah Talbot, right hand woman to David Somers, the pair can be seen here sharing a drink and a joke together.

The picture on the right shows former Labour mayor Cllr Jan Tranter discussing the pros and cons of the scheme with Whitfields own LibDem Cllr Clive Meredith. As my colleague Barry W-S ( who can be seen in the pic below) quipped..is this a new Lib-Lab Pact!?

Blue Ozzie Trevor Bond, all round good egg and Marketing Man of Ramada Dover fame, gets to know the lovely Asda ladies Danielle Booth, development officer, and Helen Jones, Public Relations, at the presentation. The whole Asda team were most helpful in supplying all the info required. The chap on the right is of course Doverforum's own man about town Barry Wadsworth-Smith.

Click on Forum in the panel on the left for more info and discussion on Asda.

Gadzooks I am aghast!! What's happened here? What's happened to these lovely people? Has some grizzly fate befallen them? Or indeed are they, perchance, from a weird and strange galaxy? Ermmmm well yes they are...Maidstone is the weird and strange galaxy! that outer realm of the unknown, where no man hath gone before, not yours truly anyway. And... have they fallen into a vat of custard while in that outer darkness.. well ermm yes again ! sort of, The group have been hit by copious custard pies all runny and dribbly. It all looks so unappetising from here doesnt it, so one sincerely hopes that for their sake, the flavour and aroma was of a vanilla fresh alpine summer day. Sigh!

Of course we exagerate, but just a tad. The sharp eyed amongst you will have already noticed legendary doe eyed rambling and roving reporter of the Dover Mercury, yes that's right, Mary Graham herself, shown here on the left covered in custard. Also in the picture above are fellow KM teamsters Helen Wagstaff and Mark Fairley.

They took part in the recent Kent Custard Pie Throwing Championship, but alas alas did poorly, having failed dismally to avoid being hit by every ounce of airborne custard going. Better luck next year team! This terrific Custard Pie event is of course for charity, with the beneficiaries being the Heart of Kent Hospice, The British Red Cross, and the National Orthopaedic Hospital. So a very well done to all who took part.

In the picture below you can see the team before custard, with the addition of 12 year old team coach Jamie keeping them in check!
