Footloose at The Marlowe
Lyn Paul, still threading the boards.PRESS RELEASE.
FURTHER to its hugely successful extended West End run in 2006, Footloose The Musical, based on the electrifying Kevin Bacon film, has cut loose and will be at The Marlowe Theatre in June as part of a UK tour.

Lyn Paul, the acclaimed singer known across the globe as part of the New Seekers (I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing sold 20 million copies worldwide) will play Vi Moore. Lyn starred in West End productions of Blood Brothers and Taboo and on television played the role of Freda Danby in Emmerdale. She recently appeared in Holby City.

When Kevin Bacon’s too-cool-for-school teenager Ren McCormack dared to dance his way out of Chicago and into small town Bomont in the movie Footloose, an icon for the 80s was born. Kevin Bacon became a global star and the film’s title track went from gold to platinum to multi-platinum in record time, spawning one of the most famous guitar intros of all time.

In 1998 Broadway lauded the hit movie live on stage as a musical spectacular. Written by Dean Pitchford (responsible for the screenplay and lyrics for the film) and Walter Bobbie, Footloose The Musical tells the story of city boy Ren who has to move to a rural backwater in America where dancing is banned. All hell breaks out as Ren breaks loose and soon has the whole town on its feet.

Directed and choreographed by Olivier award-winner Karen Bruce (Saturday Night Fever and Fame) it’s no surprise to know that Footloose contains some of the slickest, sexiest dance routines you can see on stage. Featuring a dynamic young cast, this fast-paced show is not only packed full of amazing dance but serves up some classic 80s hits, including Holding Out for a Hero, Almost Paradise, Let’s Hear It for the Boy and of course the unforgettable title track Footloose.

Reprising their roles from the 2006 West End run of Footloose The Musical are Johnny Shentall (Hear’Say, Starlight Express, MTV’s Totally Scott-Lee) as Chuck Cranston and Giovanni Spano (Fame) as Willard Hewitt.
Footloose the Musical is at The Marlowe Theatre from Monday, June 25 to Saturday, June 30. The show will be sign interpreted on the Thursday (7.30pm) and audio described on the Saturday (2.30pm). Tickets cost from £12.50 to £26 and are available from the box office on 01227 787787 or online at www.marlowetheatre.co.uk.

A Mirage in the Channel? Look at that container ship!!

Try looking at this after a lunchtime pub session. It is the maritime equivalent of the pink elephant...or so I thought when I saw it. However grabbing the camera in double quick time and taking some pictures proved conclusively that it wasnt just the effects of copus alcoholivitis. It existed for real...ermm I think. Is it a mirage? Do these optical illusions happen at sea very often? Do massive container ships fly? I dont know, but this picture is untouched and genuine.

La Salle Verte Celebration Launch.

La Salle Verte has risen from the ashes of The Green Room. The concept is very much in the same vein, relaxed and comfortable with an easy going style. It offers a wide range of light meals and coffees and now you can enjoy a glass of wine too.The ambient lighting is excellently cool. There is a conservatory garden at the rear which is very sunday supplement, and now the lower floor is also utilised. Fans of the previous establishment will love this one. More on The Forum.

On thursday evening May 17, there was a very pleasant TCM organised drinks party for invited guests to launch the business. Enjoying the wine and nibbles were;
Colette Boland, Doverforum PR, Lee Hathaway, Manager of The Roman Quay pub, Madeleine Spain partner CMS Recruitment, David Somers Town Centre Co-ordinator, and last but defintely not least Suzanne Robinson, partner CMS Recruitment.

Haydn Billson is the new owner, here we find him relaxing during the pandemonium of the drinks gathering. Good luck Haydn from Doverforum. This terrific establishment is an asset to the town and a real gem, and will surely be enjoyed by both tourists and locals alike.
